Interceptive Orthodontics (Early Treatment Orthodontics)
Interceptive orthodontics is another name for early treatment orthodontics. This treatment can begin in kids aged 6 to 7 years. At this stage, both teeth and jaw are in their development phase. Cases like teeth crowding, tongue thrust, and cross-bites are pretty normal and also easy to treat. For the treatment of these dental disorders, oral appliances that we generally utilize include Space Maintainers, Habit Appliances, and Rapid Palatal Expanders.
Space Maintainers: When your kid loses their baby teeth at a premature stage, or their permanent teeth are late in emerging, our pediatric dentist may provide a space maintainer. It supports their mouth until the gaps are filled with adult teeth and also the permanent teeth come into their perfect position. We offer various kinds of space maintainers, based on the kid’s oral condition. Some basic ones are – distal shoe, Nance, band and loop, and Lingual Holding Arch.
Habit Appliances: We put habit appliances while treating patients who have tongue thrusts and thumb-sucking habits.
Rapid Palatal Expander: We utilize Rapid Palatal Expanders or RPEs for the treatment of posterior cross-bites.
