What is Preventative Dental Care?

Going by the name, preventive dental care is the act of caring and protecting the teeth to keep them strong and healthy. Regular preventive dental care can help kids prevent cavities, gingivitis, gum infections, enamel wear, space deficiency, and so on. We offer a complete range of dental care services only for your little one.

Dental Prophylaxis

‘Professional dental cleaning’ is medically termed as Dental Prophylaxis. This method involves the elimination of plaque, stain, and calculus from the surface of the teeth. We recommend you to visit our dental office with your child after every 6 months for dental prophylaxis.

Fluoride

The mineral- Fluoride exists in your kid’s teeth that shields from the development of a cavity. As per the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Fluoride is potent in battling caries. The current application of Fluoride at our dental office can help your child prevent oral cavities.

Pit and Fissure Sealants

Normally applied in the pits and fissures of your toddler’s teeth, they help minimize the risk of caries in vulnerable pits and fissures. Their chief role lies in the fact that 80-90 % of cavities in the permanent posterior teeth and 44% in primary posterior teeth develop in the pits and fissures. Sealants are normally applied after the first and second permanent molars emerge. The first erupts at the age of six, while the second emerges at the age of 12.

Space Maintenance

When your toddler loses a primary tooth at an early age, it can result in caries, trauma, or various disorders. It can even result in needless shifting of the opposite or the neighboring tooth. This is the very reason why our kids dentist in Spanaway suggests space maintenance therapy. It helps to maintain the space for the adult tooth as well.
